What Are Promotional Gifts?

A quick definition is any product that can have a logo or brand imprinted on it. In fact there is very little that cannot be used as a gift because the choice is so vast.

Many folk think that promotional gifts, advertizing gifts and promotional products are one and the same animal; and to a certain extent they may well be right.

However, the more discerning buyer has a quite different perspective and might well place each definition in separate market slots; to say nothing of an executive gift which should be something else entirely.

Promotional gifts - It is likely that most people see a promotional gift as something that is a bit special and given to a valued customer or client. Gifts such as clocks, middle-of-the-road pens and quality desk accessories fall easily into this bracket.

Advertizing gifts - In fact, an advertizing gift is pretty similar to a promotional gift in that it does a comparable job but generally hangs around the office or desk without the advertizing being necessarily overt; just a simple logo with minimal contact details. Desktop items such as coasters, desk diaries and mugs are in this particular niche without being unduly expensive.

Promotional products - Sometimes called advertizing giveaways - are generally seen as less expensive but not of an inferior quality. There is a huge choice of inexpensive desktop promotional items that are well worth the investment such as pad blocks, pen pots, note pads, desk pads and other office paraphernalia.

Away from the desk there are many inexpensive products that are not cheap and nasty; just solid advertizing gifts that do their job at a low cost. Air fresheners, ice scrapers, Frisbees, fridge magnets are just a few popular cheap and cheerful promotional products at this level.

Corporate executive gifts - Really the definition suggests that it should be redolent of luxury and affluence. But it is not necessarily so, especially if you look at the average promotional gift catalogue. It is easy to fall back on alcohol but there are many other options, for both sexes, you might consider. Grab a product catalogue devoted to Swiss Army products or the Leatherman catalogue and your search will probably be over.

Writing instruments - There is one item that transcends all gift definitions and is used at various price levels as a promotional gift, advertizing gift, promotional product or a corporate executive gift. And that is the ever-present writing instrument, better known as a pen or pencil.

They are everywhere and at all price levels, from just a few pennies and up. They just keep on going until they reach the Mont Blanc level of big bucks. And at that price it surely must be a corporate executive gift.

So there you have it; the difference between all these wonderful descriptive definitions. Nevertheless, whatever it costs and whatever it is called, it is still just a product with a logo on.
